Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) operates two free clinics in South Jersey to serve the needs of the uninsured and underserved. VIM, with the support of the medical community and the community at large, assists those who are making a sincere effort to help themselves and their families realize optimum health. VIM’s focus is on primary health care, emphasizing disease prevention, health promotion, and patient education in easily accessible facilities with the same dignity and confidentiality afforded in the private sector.
VIM’s Cape May County clinic has been in continuous operation since 2001; the Atlantic County clinic since 2017. Currently, approximately 700 people consider the VIM clinics their primary care doctor and medical home.
VIM patients tend to have chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. The types of conditions typical to middle-aged people, who have worked in service and manual labor, lived with very low income, and rarely “doctored.” Patients that register with VIM receive free, quality primary care, specialists care when available and prescription medicine assistance. Perhaps more importantly, VIM becomes their advocate to ensure continuity of care.
Even the most basic healthcare is often out of reach for the thousands of Cape May and Atlantic County residents with limited access to health insurance. Each year more and more of our neighbors
find themselves medically underserved. Each day, Volunteers in Medicine finds a way to help.
Volunteers in Medicine provides primary care and most medications at no or low cost to our uninsured patients. Our experienced cadre of more than 100 physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, optometrists, nurses, and administrative personnel volunteer their time, skill, and expertise to care for our patients, who are treated with the highest level of respect, dignity, and medical excellence.
